America Still Has the Quality
Touch
If you think that America has lost
its edge, you need to think again. It's easy for Americans to
become disheartened about our reputation for quality and excellence.
After all, we see problems and failures all around us. Right?
Wrong.
What we do, as Americans, is take
quality and excellence for granted. We are so accustomed to
quality education, quality medicine and medical care, quality food
and food service, quality clothing, quality housing, quality mail
service (yes, I said quality mail service), quality phone lines,
quality electricity and gas services — quality everything — that we
can only see the problems as they pop up.
This nation and its people have
never been perfect. Our ideas, our way of life, our efforts to
improve ourselves, our vision of the future and what real happiness
would be, none of this has ever been perfect. When we came to
this continent, either as nomads across the Bering Sea, or as
immigrants from Europe, we came looking for a better opportunity to
make our lives a little better. And we have continued to
strive for that goal ever since.
One thing we have is the ability
to communicate freely and to share whatever we discover. When
we see a serious problem, we can freely announce it to the rest of
the country, and to the world. That's why much of the news we
read, hear, or see is about the problems we have, the poor quality
of this or that. But never forget: If poor quality was the
norm, then it would never make the news.
American-made goods still lead the
way for creativity, ingenuity and high quality craftsmanship.
When you find something truly made in America, you have often found
a real treasure worth buying, using, and keeping.
This directory of American Goods
will focus on real things made by real people, right here in
America.
